Methane pyrolysis for hydrogen and carbon black
The growing demands of low-carbon solutions
Methane pyrolysis is rapidly gaining traction as a technology to produce low-carbon hydrogen without directly emitting CO₂.
Microwave plasma as a new industrial alternative
Methane plasmalysis by microwave plasma offers a CO₂-free route simultaneously producing two high-value outputs. Each metric ton of hydrogen comes with approximately 3 tons of solid carbon in the form of carbon black or specialty materials — making both streams key economic levers. SSairem addresses this application with PlasmaSpin, a dedicated microwave plasma source designed for methane plasmalysis reactors, paired with its associated solid-state generator.

Everything You Need to Know: How Microwave Plasma can be a key solution for producing Hydrogen and Carbon Black via Methane Pyrolysis?
Methane plasmalysis is the decomposition of methane (CH₄) by microwave plasma into hydrogen (H₂) and solid carbon, without producing CO₂. It is a clean alternative to conventional hydrogen production methods such as steam methane reforming (SMR).
Turquoise hydrogen is hydrogen produced by methane pyrolysis or plasmalysis. Unlike grey or blue hydrogen, it generates no gaseous CO₂ emissions, making it one of the most promising low-carbon hydrogen pathways.
